Topics

LGBTQ Cultural Competency (Safe Space Allies Training)

One of the most vital first steps in building a welcoming, safe, and affirming environment on your college campus is educating your staff, faculty, and administrators on the basics of LGBTQ culture, how to be culturally sensitive to people who are LGBTQ, and what being an ally to the LGBTQ community really means. This 2-hour training aims to provide participants with an understanding of how to be inclusive, address LGBTQ-phobia microaggressions, and how to support LGBTQ students in crisis.

Are You a Trans Ally?

Few people are aware of the different kinds of trans people or understand what it means to be trans, much less how to sensitively interact with people who are trans or who appear to be trans. This 2-hour presentation expounds and breaks down the diverse gender identities currently in existence today versus biological sex, sexual orientation, gender roles, and gender expression. Participants are introduced to their own unconscious cisheteronormative bias and privilege, and how race, disability, and other aspects of identity can compound the oppression faced by many trans people. Participants are provided the specific tools necessary to understand what it means to be a trans ally and inclusive of trans people and trans culture, as well as some hands-on practice through interactive group activities. Participants will leave the session with resources, further study resource suggestions, ally pride stickers, and parting advice on the ways in which they can support their trans friends, coworkers, family members, and acquaintances both inside and outside the academic or professional service environment.

Trans Affirming Spaces

Do you know what kinds of policies, programs, facilities, resources, services, events, employee benefits, managerial practices, and curricula inclusions your educational institution should establish and maintain for your campus to be a place where trans students and employees thrive? This 1-hour presentation introduces participants to the many ways in which their campuses could and should be inclusive and affirming of their trans students and employees so that they can excel as effectively as their cisgender counterparts.
